1) What gets you most excited about wine?

I get most excited about the stories behind the bottle. I love wines with passionate people and great terroir. The "poetic" side of wine. I also love how wine brings people together and its ability to span across time and geography. I could nerd out for hours over a single bottle of wine, if you give me enough info!

2) Do you consider yourself an Enthusiast? Connoisseur? Recreational? Other?

I currently hold my WSET 3 advanced certificate in wine and am also a certified American Wine Expert. I'm always looking to know more about wine and would consider myself a connoisseur at this point. I'm also planning to start my WSET Diploma in the next year to continue my formal education in wine.

3) What do you look for when selecting new bottles to try?

I love to try to find bottles that are unique. I very rarely just pick up a bottle from a store shelf - I'm a wine nerd and I love to do my research first! I look for unique stories, interesting winemakers, and intentional production. I also love talking to the staff at wine shops; they always know the most exciting bottles to try, and offer great recommendations!

4) Are you loving any particular varietals lately?

With everything going on lately, I find myself making excuses to pop some bubbly or open special bottles. It's a nice way to get out of my own head and focus on what's right in the world -- or at least right in my glass! Not a varietal, but specific types of wine.

I'm also a sucker for single-vineyard Pinot Noir. There's something so captivating about the way it can showcase the terroir and tell a story about a place.

5) What experience cannot be fully enjoyed without the right bottle of wine?

There's something about intentionally pairing a bottle of wine with dinner that really elevates the entire meal. There's a certain atmosphere aspect, but also when you find a wine that enhances the food and the food enhances the wine and it's all just right... it's like heaven. Flavors you never knew existed explode on your taste buds and it's really a magical experience. A meal without wine just doesn't feel complete!
